Alice Bian is an undergraduate at Rice University. She recently graduated with a Bachelor in Studio Arts and Architecture.Â
She has been exploring intimacy and formal puns through garments, ceramics, and installations. Alice looks at the forms produced from functionality in kitchenware and undergarments as shells for a new function. The ironic pairing and mismatching of form and function critiques the current social and familial expectations for achievement and high efficiency. Her pieces expresses through a deadpan and humorous tone, prompting the audience to reflect on their daily objects and the contexts they exist in.
